Greetings, S.E.M.A.S.C.!

On behalf of the S.E.M.A.S.C. Executive Board and all of the member schools of our association, it is my pleasure to welcome you to another celebratory leadership-training year. Belonging to S.E.M.A.S.C. provides leadership building benefits for member schools.  Networking and sharing ideas with neighboring schools allows student councils within our region the opportunity to hone their leadership talents.  Therefore, we encourage you to actively participate in all S.E.M.A.S.C. sponsored conferences and events.

Again, this year reflects leadership excellence.  It has been an honor to work with your diligent 2008 – 2009 Executive Board members.  Their passion and dedication to community service projects will hopefully inspire others.  The Executive Board encourages altruism voiced as “Hand in Hand: Together We Can” which is this years S.E.M.A.S.C. theme.  They will continue to challenge student council members to volunteer for community service projects and be the difference makers throughout the year.

Over the last five months, the S.E.M.A.S.C. Executive Board and Foxboro High School have networked and shared ideas.  Advisor Christine “Senorita” Smith and the Foxboro student council members have demonstrated leadership pride and professionalism throughout their planning for this conference.  “We Got the Beat”  on October 10, 2008 includes a dynamic guest speaker, Liz Walker, leadership workshops, the election of our 2009 – 2010 S.E.M.A.S.C. President, and an informational Advisor’s Business Meeting.  This conference kicks off the year with opportunities to begin your council’s community service project planning.

Many S.E.M.A.S.C. schools have volunteered their energies and school facilities to host events.  We will venture to Attleboro High School in April 2009 for our Spring Conference.  We are still seeking schools interested in hosting a Round Table and the Executive Board is planning a Movie Night and Presidents’ Dinner.  Thank you for your endless dedication in encouraging our future leaders to demonstrate their leadership skills.

Our busy schedules create rich experiences and wisdoms!  Continue to share your energy and expertise with our student council family throughout the year.  For additional S.E.M.A.S.C. leadership opportunities, please visit semasc07.googlepages.com/home.  All registered S.E.M.A.S.C. schools will receive a Fall Newsletter containing important information.  Have a great year, and I hope to see you at all the 2008 – 2009 S.E.M.A.S.C. events.

Sincerely,

Linda J. Francis
