About SeeSpots Cattery

SeeSpots’ Bengals fulfill three functions:
  1. They give people who can not volunteer but still want to support us a way to do so.
  2. The Bengal is SeeSpots’ mascot.
  3. They give their new owners and members of SeeSpots valuable animal husbandry experience.
Member of the TIBCA, the CCA, and a registered breeder with the TICA , but more importantly, we use common sense and plenty of compassion.

"The goal of the Bengal breeding program is to as nearly as possible replicate the appearance of the wild leopard cat while maintaining the dependable temperament of the domestic cat. " The Canadian Cat Association

There is much talk of "improving the breed" and this is important, there is no point in churning out mediocre kittens. However, from what I have seen, the most important thing is the health and happiness of my kittens.

It is my goal to provide the best care I can for these cats. Perrrsonality is what is most important to the person that has to take care of the kitty for the next 15 or 20 years. It is in the first 6 months of a cat's life that most of their behavioral conditioning takes place so I have a chance to influence each and every cat's future for the better.

This is the logic behind pedigreeing cats in the first place. No one is trying to say that pedigreed cats are somehow better, the pedigree just means that for more than 5 generations, the owners of the kitten's family have all agreed - basically - to a certain value system.

This is my position on the following:
  • Health Guarantee. The TICA asks that breeders refrain from using the word "guarantee" (since especially health can't be guaranteed) and instead say, "To the best of my knowledge", "my kittens are free from health problems."
  • Contract. I believe that contracts are important and indeed, I am contractually bound as a breeder to use them. I use standard TIBCS contracts as they are available for download on their web-site.
  • Shots. I am bound by the TICA Voluntary Code of Ethics to ensure the kitties get their shots.
  • Papers, pedigrees, and fixing. You can not get papers for your new pet until it has been altered. Those are the rules as decreed by the TICA. Please, get the cat altered. Please get the cat's paperwork. You might die before your pet and then where will it be? Get the cat altered. Get the paperwork. For the cat.
