Math The county adopted textbook we use is Harcourt Brace Math Advantage.
There are thirty chapters in the student workbook and we go through
these chapters fairly quickly. Some of the most challenging skills
covered are addition and subtraction with regrouping, telling time,
measurement and counting money. Math tests will be sent home each week
and the scores will be written in agendas. Login: AR Password PW: AR Password Writing Writing and grammar skills will be taught using Just Write by Kathy Robinson as well as the McGraw-Hill/McMillan Treasures Reading Series.
We will continue working on sentence structure and grammar and writing
in paragraph form. By the end of second grade, your child should be
able to write a narrative and an expository paper. A paragraph includes
a main idea and supporting sentences and a closing. Daily writing
activities during the year will involve various skills such as
brainstorming, webbing, creating lists, rough drafts, revising,
rewriting, publishing, and power writing. In addition, four writing
samples will be assessed and kept in each student’s writing folder
throughout the year.
Social Studies The county adopted textbook is Harcourt Social Studies. Units of study will include: Neighborhoods, Maps & Geography, Rules, Laws and Manners, Our Country, Career Education. Handwriting Although a handwriting grade will not appear on the report card, we will be instructing students in handwriting. Furthermore, we will begin teaching D’Nealian Cursive writing the second semester. ** Math and Science login information may not work for a couple weeks- the lists need to be set up.
