Health is not merely the absence of disease but the prevention of it. Hippocrates said: "Everyone has a doctor in him or her; we just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. Our food should be our medicine. Our medicine should be our food. But to eat when you are sick, is to feed your sickness." This last sentence is ignored by modern medicine, also known as Allopathy. Fasting or a restricted intake of food can have a healing effect on the body and is sometimes part of Detoxification, where the body is rid of toxins. Hippocrates also believed that, "Walking is man's best medicine." With that, let us explore the things that keep us Healthy, after all, research has proven that a person can lower their chance of disease by as much as 85%. Some of these studies were long-term, lasting 25 years, and some are still ongoing. Medicine in the U.S. has become more concerned over the bottom line, seeing patients for the income they will make from them and caring less for their well-being. Profit driven medicine is bad for your health and we should go back to an older system paying doctors to prevent disease and if disease were to present itself, stop all payment until healthy again. That would be the way medicine should be practiced, prevent disease before it happens, not forcing you to pay once you're sick. |
