MDM/SDM 2009 Workshop

Welcome to the website of the First SIAM SDM Workshop on Multimedia Data Mining

The theme of this year's workshop is "mining multimodal correlations from mix-media structured and unstructured data sets."  However, papers in areas related to general topics of multimedia data mining are welcome to submit.  For a list of topics of interest, please see this page.


We welcome submissions in mining general multi-modal data sets, including web images, scientific databases (bio-imaging, astronomy, geo-spatial, etc.), time series, video clips, and so on.  Papers from related workshops can be found here.


The Multimedia Data Mining workshop at the 2009 SIAM SDM conference, brings together experts from various fields: digital media, multimedia database, multimedia information retrieval, spatial data analysis, web search, collaborative virtual environments, and of course, data mining and knowledge discovery. The goal is to provide a venue where researchers from both academia and industry can exchange latest results and advances in the general area of multimedia data mining.


Latest Announcements


  • The slides of the paper presentations are now available.  Thanks go to the speakers for sharing their slides.  Also available now are the photos taken at the workshop.  Enjoy!
  • The workshop was held successfully.  We would like to thanks all the speakers and the participants for joining us at the workshop, and we hope that everyone has had a great time. 
  • The workshop program is now on-line!  The MDM/SDM 2009 workshop will be held in the morning on May 2, 2009 (Saturday), with two invited talks and one paper presentation session.  Looking forward to see you all at the workshop!

Submission Instructions

The Paper Submission Site is at https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/SDM2009/.  Please first sign up as an user of the system, then follow the instructions to submit your paper.

Submitted papers should have a maximum length of 12 page (single-spaced, 2 column, 10 point font, and at least 1" margin on each side). Authors should use US Letter (8.5" x 11") paper size. Papers must have an abstract with a maximum of 300 words and a keyword list with no more than 6 keywords.

 We would like to encourage you to prepare your paper in LaTeX2e. Papers should be formatted using the SIAM SODA macro, which is available through the SIAM website. You can access it at http://www.siam.org/books/authors/p_handbook8.php. The filename is soda2e.all. Make sure you use the macros for SODA and Data Mining Proceedings; papers prepared using other proceedings macros will not be accepted.
