Student Performance

Students during the course of the Script Writing lesson will be expected to meet several different objectives. By the end students should:
  • Complete at least one of four plays selected
  • Use Ning.com to join a group and discuss ideas about final project
  • Create character analysis for major characters of the play
  • Watch sample project videos to develop ideas
  • Use the I-Search Method to explore their play's time period in order to understand setting and character motivation
  • Develop an original setting and character individually for practice
  • Work with partner to create a short dialogue about a real life situation/problem and perform it in class
  • Work collaboratively with group to create a script for an alternative ending, additional scene, or adaptation of a scene from their play
  • Demonstrate efficiency with flip-cams and editing software
  • Work collaboratively with group to film and edit script
  • Use YouTube to upload videos
  • Present videos to class
  • Complete peer and lesson evaluation
Throughout the six week, observation will be the key to knowing if students are accomplishing tasks or not. Ning forums will constantly be monitored  to ensure that groups have been brainstorming and coming up with valid ideas. It will also allow the teacher to see if all team members are actively participating or if one or two students are doing all the work. Media Specialist will also be able to make sure students are finding proper information when doing research and that they understand the proper use of camera/software equipment.

Students will be required to turn in their character analysis, setting/character description, and short dialogue assignments after completion. Teacher will assess the assignments to make sure students are grasping the lesson and are on the right track. Comments will be provided so that student will know what they are doing well and what needs improvements. Provided that students put effort into the assignment they will receive full points.

For the final product, students will be expected to turn in both script and video. Handout and sample videos will be provided so that students will know exactly what elements the project should have. Students will also be given a grading rubric so they know how they will be graded. While the quality of the video and acting will play into final grade, the teacher will be looking more at team work, writing process, and final script.  Student will also complete a peer and lesson evaluation once everything is completed.
