 Sycamore Creek Media Specialist: Mrs. Lyons
My name is Andrea Y. Lyons and I grew up in New Bern, North Carolina-the home of the New Bern Bears and Tryon Palace. I attended East Carolina University and received a BS Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in English. In 2001, I moved to Raleigh to begin my career in education. I began teaching second grade at Hunter Gifted and Talented Magnet School and later transferred to Hilburn Drive Elementary. In 2004, my love for all types of literature persuaded me to reenter East Carolina University to obtain a Masters in Library Science and Technology. Upon completion of the program in 2006, I began seeking and completed my National Board Certification in Early Childhood. With seven years of experience in the classroom, I am ecstatic to begin my second year as the CROCODILE'S Media Specialist.
Sycamore Creek Media Assistant: Mrs. Powell
I’m excited to be at Sycamore Creek working in the media center with Mrs. Lyons. My first summer job was with the summer reading program of my home town library – a place I visited two or three times a week during my elementary and middle school years. I attended the University of Rochester and University of Delaware preparing for a career in research biology but decided the library was where I belonged. The Jeffreys Grove Elementary School library was my home for many years and now I am proud to be a Sycamore Creek Crocodile.
