Primary Grades (Kindergarten-2) At the primary level, the GATE Resource Specialist offers continuous resource support to the classroom teacher and monitors all students through inclusion in large and small group activities. Through extension activities with the entire class, the GATE Resource Specialist provides opportunities for the development of student abilities and models appropriate differentiation strategies. The primary grades are served by a full-time Specialist at the central campus and an itinerant Specialist serving both the northern and southern campuses. Upper Elementary Grades (3-4) On the third and fourth-grade levels, GATE resource services are provided to all classroom teachers with students being monitored for the GATE Program. Opportunities for extension are supported by the GATE Resource Specialist in the regular classroom and through pull-out activities. Students identified as eligible for GATE Program services in the area of General Intellectual Aptitude are clustered in one or more classrooms where the GATE Resource Specialist and classroom teacher are involved in collaborative planning and instruction. The upper elementary grades are served by a full-time Specialist at the central campus and by two itinerant Specialists, each serving elementary and middle schools, one at the northern and one at the southern campus. Middle School (5-8) On the fifth through eighth-grade levels, GATE Resource Specialists provide resource services to all teachers with students identified as eligible for GATE Program services in the area of General Intellectual Aptitude or an area of Specific Aptitude. In addition, GATE students participate in weekly gifted advisory sessions which address their unique affective needs. Students may be clustered for some academic subjects. GATE Resource Specialists and classroom teachers are involved in collaborative planning through regular team meetings. Inter-school Enrichment Seminar activities are provided based on collaborative planning among the three middle-school GATE Resource Specialists. The middle grades are served by a full-time Specialist at the central campus and by two itinerant Specialists, each serving elementary and middle schools, one at the northern and one at the southern campus. High School (9-12) On the ninth through twelfth-grade levels, the GATE Resource Specialist provides resource services to all teachers with students identified as eligible for GATE Program services in the area of General Intellectual Aptitude or in an area of Specific Academic Aptitude. Inter-school Enrichment Seminar activities are provided. Semester-length community mentorships/internships are available to identified eleventh and twelfth-graders subject to application approval. The three high schools are served by a single itinerant GATE Resource Specialist. |
