  •  PARTICIPATION: *ALL* team members participate fully; there are no kids "on the bench" in wrestling
  • REGISTRATION: See GA Website or click here for Sign-up Forms and Information
  • "CUTTING WEIGHT": K-8 are physical and mental developmental years; team members will wrestle at their natural weight; no suggestion or discussion about weight loss will be encouraged or tolerated
  • WHEN ARE MEETS? CAN MY CHILD DO OTHER WINTER SPORTS TOO? Meets are completely voluntary and are typically held on Sunday mornings; many kids also are members of the school basketball team which we encourage
  •  AGE/GENDER/SCHOOL AFFILIATION: Wrestling is available to all ages K-8, male and female, all schools
  • EXPERIENCE: No experience is necessary as we have three teams (Youth beginner, Youth advanced, and Junior High) with specific skill sets and intensities for each
  • SEASON DURATION: GA Wrestling starts 1st Monday in October and wraps up in early February; for high achievers, district, regional, and state level competitiion occurs in mid-Feb to mid-Mar
  • COMPETITION: 1:1 wrestling matches in which 2 wrestlers are matched by age, weight, and in many cases experience compete; Wrestling "meets" can be with 2 teams ("dual"), 3 teams ("tri") or many teams; wrestlers can expect 2-3 matches in each "meet"; Matches consist of three periods of one to one-and-a-half minutes each; Wrestlers will have the opportunity to participate in over 12 meets during the year (although it is rare for a wrestler to do every one)
  • PRACTICES: Mats will be open 4 days per week (Tue, Wed, and Thu from 6-9pm and Sat from 830-10am); Youth beginner will practice 2 nights per week, Youth Advanced will practice 3 times per week, Junior High will practice 4 times per week; see About for more information
  • COACHES AND STAFF: We are fortunate to have over 10 coaches; the majority (currently 7) have wrestled at the high school and college level.  We rely on parent volunteers for administration and meet execution assistance.  Please contact a coach to discuss how you can help!  All coaches are certified in The Decree on Child Protection.  Coaches are currently being certified in USA Wrestling Copper Certification Level.  USA Wrestling Coaches Certification ensures standards for technique and uses the book Coaching Youth Wrestling - 3rd Edition as a basis.  Talk to a coach for more info.
  • COACHING FEEDBACK: Please address any concern you might have directly with a coach. If your concerns are not addressed or you do not agree with the feedback, feel free to contact the GA Athletic Booster Director for Wrestling (listed on GA Website).  If you are not satisfied, you may contact the President of the GA Athletic Boosters. In addition, every parent/guardian is asked to complete a coach evaluation at the end of the season. These evaluations are used to improve our coaches by addressing any issues, further educate them and assist with coach selection in the future.
