Fife Fungal Interest Group is a small group of enthusiasts with an interest in identifying and recording fungi. New members are always welcome, whether complete beginners or experienced forayers. Group forays usually involve walking around a woodland or other site and recording the range of species found, and the pace is usually gentle, with ample time to photograph specimens or talk. It costs just £5.00 a year to become a member (N.B. membership fees waived for 2012). Members need to join the FFIG Yahoo Group to receive important group emails: Follow this link to join. Please also complete a membership form (under 'Join FFIG’ below).
Forays are mostly run in the months from August to October. Events usually take place on a Saturday or Sunday – check the Calendar for upcoming dates. Although FFIG run occasional forays, there are several other organisations which run fungus foray events in or nearby Fife and which welcome everyone: Fife Ranger Service; Kirkcaldy Naturalists; The Pitcairn Society; Perth Society of Natural Science; Dundee Naturalists; South-East Scotland Fungus Groups.
All that you need on a foray is a packed lunch, warm and waterproof clothing, enthusiasm and a sense of humour! You may also wish to bring , a notebook, camera, and something to gather fungi in (see the getting started page). The Group has a small library of books and a microscope which members can borrow to get them started. Site under construction.
