In this subject, students were introduced to the principles of grading and design. A series of exercises were carried out in the studio and in the field to gain an understanding of how to perform grading calculations. Students were introduced to the methods involved in determining: cut and fill volumes; appropriate slopes for drainage of particular surfaces; the rise and tread of steps and ramps; contour levels through interpolation; and surveying and plotting. The final project involved students generating a design for a golf course in Melbourne.
