The human body pushed to its limits: can we survive?

Purpose

·          Determine four body systems that might be affected in your specific case and explain how each system is affected including what might happen at the level of cellular processes.

·          Establish relationships between the chosen systems.

·          Reinforce information search strategies: web page and information evaluation.

·          Simulate a real situation using Flash.

·          Upload animations on a web page.


Expected outcome

1.         A written report with a detailed explanation of how each system is affected by the given situation and of the relationships between 2 pairs of systems.

2.        Web page showing the following:  case animation, 4 system animations and 2 system relationships.

Instructions

1.         This project includes 10%, 30% and 60% grades. Work will be done in pairs but there is also individual responsibility.

2.        Work pairs will be assigned and you will choose a case from a list. Read the case and determine the four body systems that might be affected and have the most evident relationship. Share your choice with the teacher.

3.        Complete the first two columns of a KNL chart (What I know, what I need to know, and what I learned).

4.        Evaluate a website and its information: after Stella’s class you will have to turn in the note taking activity.

5.        Each member will be in charge of two systems.  You will have to turn in an explanatory paragraph of how each system is affected, and an animation of the system that illustrates exactly what is explained in the paragraph.

6.        Choose one of your systems and establish its relationship with one of the systems of your partner.  In group, write an explanatory paragraph of the relationship, in detail, and show it in an animation. At the end you should have established and animated two different relationships between the four systems (do not repeat system). Do not forget to include what happens at the cellular level.

7.        Put together all your paragraphs and present a research report following the guidelines in the rubric.

9.        Plan an oral presentation that should include all the animations with the respective scientific explanations. Follow the guidelines in the rubric..
