Practice
I was born and raised in Oakland Ca. I remember when Chris Mullin was a force in the NBA, and the Warriors were a winning team prior to the 2006 season. The Raiders were not around because Al Davis had taken the team to LA, so I watched Joe Montana and Steve Young lead the 49ers to 5 championships. I went to Berkeley High where I played soccer and found a love of books. I'm to this day an avid reader. Favorites include Stephen Pinker's The Blank Slate (which I wore on my head during graduation), Kay Redfield Jamison's An Unquiet Mind, Plato's Republic, Homer's the Iliad (not the odyssey  its boring), Richard Dawkin's The Blind Watchmaker, The Physics of Basketball, Under the Black Flag (requisite pirate book). I lived for two years in Santa Cruz California where I attended Cabrillo Community College and UC Santa Cruz. Though I did not take up surfing I became a bowler with a high score of 278, and an average of 168. Our team was the "The East Bay Bowlers featuring Charlie". We came in 5th in our league. After coming to UC Davis I picked up Ultimate Frisbee (the Ultimate sport) and began my Neurobiology Physiology and Behavior degree. I worked in multiple labs over the following 3 years, studying how rat brains respond to concussive events and preventatives, how post traumatic stress syndrome works, and the behavior of chlorine channels grown artificially and injected into frog eggs (oocytes). After graduation I began teaching biology and chemistry which I am still doing at Luther Burbank High School. Shout out to A202 and my fantastic students! I also coach Ultimate Frisbee at UC Davis with Erik Palmer. I enjoy carpentry, traveling, hanging with my Marion (my girlfriend of 5 + years), gardening, reading, hanging with friends and being absurd.
