Compacting Options for Ms. Steelman-Allen's Classes

What is Compacting?

Curriculum compacting is a content acceleration strategy that enables students to skip parts of the curriculum they have already mastered and move on to more challenging content and activities.

Why participate? Why not just stay in the classroom?

The general science curriculum meets the needs of many students.  However, for some, an alternative way of learning might be more advantageous. The basic premise of curriculum compacting is to present students with an opportunity to truly learn more, not just review content they are already familiar with.

I've put together a collection of possible projects and activities that can be used throughout the school year.  These are suggestions.  They can be tweaked and improved to fit the needs of individual students.  By following the links to the left, you can investigate the projects and activities for each unit taught during the 7th grade school year.  Enjoy!

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at steelmfi@champaignschools.org.

Below you will find copies of the compacting log, steps to take while working on a compacting project and the compacting agreement.  The agreement must be signed before beginning a project.  The log must be turned in with the final project.
