AMAT: Mr. Cowdrey leaves, Mr. Wheeler takes over
BY BRITTNEY DEVINE Staff Writer of The Lion's Tale As some of the student body already knows, Mr. Vince Cowdrey has left Turner. He was once the director of the AMAT Academy but is now working in the Administration Building of the district. He is working with media and production with not just Turner, but with the whole district as well. As always, Mr. Cowdrey is keeping busy keeping students all up to date with his media savvy. Now that Mr. Cowdrey has left Turner, Mr. Jason Wheeler is now teaching the AMAT classes that he had before and working as the new Mr. Cowdrey. Mr. Wheeler is busier than ever. "I love the challenge and look forward to all the different things we will be doing this year," said Mr. Wheeler. He also mentioned that he is very excited about the new job and can't wait to continue for years to come. Mr. Wheeler isn't doing it all alone though. Mr. Freddie Wilmot, who has also been working with the AMAT students in years past, has helped out by stepping in and taking the job of teaching the Senior Exhibition class that Mr. Cowdrey once taught. Mr. Wilmot said at first he was "freaked out since [Mr. Cowdrey] is pretty much the 'Founding Father' of AMAT," but he is excited for the opportunity for him and Mr. Wheeler. "This year I not only get to work with the incoming freshmen, but I also get to work with the AMAT seniors, whom I had as freshmen, as their Senior Exhibition adviser. It's hard to believe that they are already in their last year here. We've also made some changes with the introduction classes for our freshmen. They will be able to get a real feel for all the AMAT strands so they can get a better idea of what they want to study in our program," said Mr. Wilmot While the transition has surely not been easy, the AMAT Academy is still thriving and producing talented students under the "new management." Mr. Wheeler has had plenty of assistance and support to keep him going. Although Turner students and faculty, especially returning AMAT students, surely miss Mr. Cowdrey's presence at Turner, the AMAT program will still continue to grow and keep the good name it has earned thanks to the Mr. Cowdrey, Mr. Wheeler, Mr. Wilmot, Mr. Mike Seeley, Mr. Tom Toulmin, and Ms. Michelle Mattoon. So "stay tuned. It is going to be a very exciting year." |
