Artist Statement
Making the most of Snap Decisions is an exhibition of paintings created from the 4 x 6 inch photographs taken by the artist’s younger self. The images are accidental compositions unwittingly created at various stages of the artist’s life.
Making the most of Snap Decisions is the result of digging and sorting through boxes and piles of hundreds of moments of suspended animation. It is part of an on-going exploration of collecting and hording of the incidental random moments in photographs. The resulting images are painted versions of the original youthful photographs contemplated and filtered though the painter’s eyes and hands.
Making the most of Snap Decisions is an exhibition of the ordered outcome of the
cumulative imagery. The paintings are forced to relate to a common horizon
line, which is the thread tying the work together and imposing a version of
order.
