Schallenberger's Big Top 2009 - the circus is coming!

It's time to get ready for our annual Walkathon and Fall Festival!
These two events are Schallenberger Home and School Association's largest fundraisers of the year. Our goal this year is to raise $55k from both events. Proceeds will help SHSA support our students and teachers through the funding of art and music programs, classroom supplies and library books. This year, more than ever, we need your support!

GET A JUMP START ON YOUR WALKATHON PLEDGE CAMPAIGN:
Pledge packets were sent home mid September. To help us reach our goal of $55k, EACH student needs to bring in at least $100 in pledges. Last year our top fundraiser brought in over $1,000 in pledges! Get a jump start on your campaign today by making a list of potential donors. Top fundraisers will be eligible for a special luncheon with Principal Ruiz and a chance to lead off the countdown on the day of our Walkathon. Remember, all donations are tax deductible!

We are currently seeking businesses or individuals that are interested in becoming a WAT/FF sponsor. Our Walkathon t-shirt will be worn by more than 650 students and staff throughout the year and more than 800 community members will attend the Fall Festival. Each event provides our sponsors with great visibility while supporting our students! Sponsorship deadline is Sept 22, 2009. Contact Patty Shilling at shillingfamily@earthlink.net or 408.603.3700 for more info and the form is here

RAFFLE DONATIONS
SHSA is continually seeking donations of gift certificates, merchandise, gift baskets to be used for various fundraising events throughout the year.  If you have an item to donate or have a local connection, please let us know.

Fall Festival Used Book Sale
We’re collecting books for a Used Book Sale table! All donated books in gently used (or better) condition will be for sale at bargain prices on Friday night during the Fall Festival. All proceeds from the Used Book Sale will go directly to Schallenberger.  This is a great time to go through your kids’ books at home.  Bring any gently-used books that you wish to donate to school.  Large red boxes will be placed around campus and you can simply place your donated books inside the boxes.
Boxes will be out beginning the morning of Monday, September 21st and will remain in place until the morning of Friday, October 9th.

August 2009

On behalf of Schallenberger’s Home and School Association (SHSA), we hope that your child is enjoying the long days of summer and is looking forward to another successful school year this fall!

In the midst of the current state budget crisis, public schools as we know them are changing. This is why we are sending you this letter – to urge you and your family to get involved with SHSA today. Inaction is not an option. We need your support in order to keep our programs alive!

SHSA is Schallenberger’s parent-led organization that aims to mobilize our community and raise funds to enhance the educational experience for every child at Schallenberger.  SHSA raises over $85,000 annually for our school and provides 100% of the funding for Schallenberger’s art and music programs. We also fund educational assemblies, supplies for our classrooms, and books for our library.  Additionally, for the 2009-2010 school year, SHSA has committed supplemental funding to help bridge some of the gaps arising from our state budget crisis. This means that our tech support person, part-time library aides, and three part-time instructional aides will remain at Schallenberger at their current hours so they can continue to provide much-needed support for our teachers and students!

All of this is possible thanks to the many families that support SHSA. We hope that as members of the Schallenberger community, you will join us on our mission by getting involved with SHSA. How do you get started? It’s very simple: 1) volunteer your time; and 2) support SHSA’s fundraising campaign.

Please take a few minutes to review the attached parent information form and provide us with your current contact information so we can include you in our parent directory and e-list. Also included on this form is a complete listing of the many volunteer opportunities offered at Schallenberger. Even if you only have one hour to volunteer each month, you can make a difference.

Below, we have highlighted the key components of our fundraising campaign. You will be happy to discover that 1) it does NOT include catalog sales and 2) it shows you how you can start raising money for our school today without even writing a check!

Please join us at our Welcome Back Coffee on the first day of school, Monday, August 17, 2009 at 8am in the cafeteria, where you'll be able to mingle with Principal Ruiz, the SHSA board, and other wonderful parents from Schallenberger. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy your final days of summer and look forward to serving you in the upcoming school year!
