Parish of Scotby and Cotehill with Cumwhinton
‘Behold, I have set before you an open door which no one can shut’ – Revelation 3 v.8 Mission: By God’s grace, making disciples of Jesus Christ and growing God’s Kingdom in our parish and beyond.
Vision: To know Jesus Christ better and to make Him better known.
We want our local Church to be:
A community of love – Reflecting Christ * where people make friends easily * where people serve and care for one another * where people can see the Word of God in action * where the faith of all is nurtured, particularly those new to the Christian faith * which seeks to understand, celebrate and defend the truth of the gospel. * where people love God, one another and the community we are called to serve.
A place of worship – Rejoicing in Christ * where people of all ages join together in heartfelt praise and thanksgiving * where the Bible is trusted as God’s Word and taught faithfully and clearly. * which ensures its worship is honouring to God and open and relevant to all. * where people offer their best to God in a variety of forms of worship: traditional and contemporary, contemplative and participatory. * where prayer is valued and encouraged, both together and as individuals. * where people’s gifts are discerned, nurtured and exercised for God’s glory
A light to the world – Revealing Christ Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. Partnering the wider Church in mission Building constructive links with the local community through outreach and service. Promoting Christian values in education Presenting the Christian faith to children and young people Equipping and encouraging members in their every day life.
We will seek to interconnect the local and diocesan vision, under the 5 marks of a Healthy Church:
Maturity in Faith Jesus’ gifts were … “to equip God's people for work in his service, to the building up of the body of Christ. So shall we all at last attain to the unity inherent in our faith and our knowledge of the Son of God - to mature adulthood, measured by nothing less than the full stature of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-13 *to run at least one Christian Basics & one Christian Discipleship Course each year *to identify vocations
Expectant Prayer and Lively Worship Jesus said to his disciples: “God is spirit, and those who worship him, must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24 *to affirm existing Prayer Groups, the Parish Prayer Diary and use the Prayer Ministry Team better *to celebrate different styles of worship in our parish and widen participation in worship. *to develope ‘Fresh Expressions’ of Church, i.e Connect@Cumwhinton, School Quest Club, etc. *to make the most of special occasions, having special services at each church.
Community Service and Engagement Jesus said, “If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” John 13:14 *to affirm and develop the existing strong links with the local community. *to ensure our buildings are ‘fit for purpose’ and to use them more extensively for God’s glory. *to affirm our Mission & Charitable Giving – at least 10% of our regular giving. *to enable Christian ministry beyond the church – equip people to live 24/7 as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Evangelism Jesus said to his followers: “Go and make disciples of all nations.” Matthew 28:19 *to grow in spiritual maturity and numerically (5% each year in regular attendance) *to develop the Mission Action Plan *to identify two people as ‘Parish Evangelists’ *to equip all church members to tell others about their life as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Quality of Relationships Jesus said, “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34,35 *to develop our existing ecumenical links with the local Methodist Church and Residential Homes *to grow more Fellowship Groups for Bible study, prayer, fellowship and encouragement *to organise social activities to strengthen friendship and fellowship with non-churchgoers. *to be a welcoming Church and one which invests in relationships with God and one another. *to provide support for family life and provide courses in parenting and marriage enrichment. |
