The Lorax is a lovely place. You can find Loraxers at all hours of the night in the Vortex, our living room area (which seems to have some strange gravitational force which keeps you there for hours and hours). Good luck making it to the kitchen. If you do suceed however, you may be in luck! Perhaps there is a quart of homemade hazelnut mylk sweetend with brown rice syrup and vanilla waiting for you! If there is no mylk it is probably because we were too busy creating the perfect seasoning for stovetop popcorn. Did you get side tracked en route to the kitchen? That's fine, you probably needed a protien boost and a toasted PBJ is just the thing. During fall 08 and winter 09 the Lorax averaged 12 gallons of peanut butter. Some suspect that there is more peanut butter in a Loraxers body than high fructose corn syrup! Now that you're done in the kitchen, why don't you check out the message board in the hallway for new events, ideas, complaints or love notes. Ahh, it is Radical Film night you learn. The Lorax hosts Radical Film Night every Wednesday evening as a part of the Eugene Freeskool. In the fall of 08 we used house funds to purchase a used projector. It is mounted on the ceiling in the meeting room. Meeting? Sunday already? Meetings begin between 6 and 630 Sunday evenings (depending on when dinner is ready). We have another white board where people write discussion topics, proposals and more general announcements. We operate on consensus. Thumbs up; good for me, good for the group! Thumbs sideways; bad for me, good for the group. Thumb down; bad for me, bad for the group (a note about blocking: some say that you should only block once...in your entire life...if that even. Blocking is a very serious action, especially when people are voting "thumbs up." A block in this sitiation would mean that you feel that your opinion MUST be heard above all others in the house. Think about it). There are other hand gestures which we like a lot. A seasoned co-oper will often be found "twinkling" (sparkle fingers) outside of the house at such innate things as "wow, a quarter!" or "do you want to go dumpstering?" You can up and down twinkle to show your emotions. Heck yes non verbal communication! Writing will never do a co-op justice, so if you are still interested stop by for dinner! Here is the previous Lorax description. It was written with love during the 07-08 school year: We have a really awesome infoshop that will be usefull and functional...soon. melanie works here and is the best! uhm, and there are some other good people who live here. the internet connection is good, but there are wires running everywhere. courtney and paige are both really pretty. Phoenix is super cool and hard working and and and all the good stuff. James lives here. Lydia is a yogic, scubadiving, artistic monkey. She spins some mad fire, gets the party started! Jess is into biology and has way too many majors. She enjoys mohawks, ranting, and fortells massive environmental crisis and that we need to come together and be prepared.
