2011 Summer Program Applications Now Available
 
To apply for this year's summer program click on Apply and chose between the New Applicant and the Alumni Applications. 
 
SCA Houston's 2011 Summer Program is a paid summer job ($7.25/hour) for local high school students (or recent graduates) aged 15-19. The Program will begin on June 27th, 2011 and will run for 6 weeks. Final dates are still subject to change.
 
Members of the program will spend the workday (Monday - Friday) in local parks and nature areas doing conservation projects. These can include building/maintaining trails, restoring habitat, pulling invasive species, planting native species, constructing boardwalks, community gardening, and much more! Also included is some environental education and Green Jobs Readiness Training, as well as a recreational camping trip at the end of the program.

2010 Green Team Program Completed
Thanks to all 36 members who completed the Program!  Recruiting for the 2011 Green Team will begin in the spring.
 
 
 
 
SCA Houston Green Team begins June 21st, 2010

As a 5 week Summer Program Crew member, you will:

  • Commute each day to and from a central meeting place where you meet with your leader before heading out to work.
  • Build hiking trails, protect threatened habitats and do site restoration projects in local parks.
  • See your community in a whole new way, and learn about the environment through field trips led by your Crew Leader.
  • Sleep under the stars on a recreational camping trip at the end of the summer!
  • Work and play alongside other students just like you from across the Houston area.
  • Earn a paycheck for your work, usually about $1,000 total.
  • Earn over 100 community service hours. (Great for college & jobs!)

Green Team Crews consist of two adult leaders and ten student members from across Houston.

Applicants must be 15-19 years old, and currently enrolled in high school or a 2009-2010 high school graduate.
