Instead of our regular meeting we are holding a:

SPECIAL EVENT to build up to 2011 UN climate talks in Durban – 6.30pm Tuesday 15th November at Quaker Meeting House – a visiting South African film maker Rehad Desai will talk to us about the climate protest movement in South Africa

Rehad Desai is part of organising the protests and demonstrations that will take place in South Africa against the summit, calling for social justice for the people of Africa. The continent is increasingly feeling the consequences of climate change and the calendar of events in South Africa will be important in creating a grass roots movement. South African trade unionists have recently launched a Million Climate Jobs campaign - you can find out more at http://www.climatejobs.org.za/. An international climate jobs conference is also taking place in South Africa on 4th of December, during the UN talks.  Suzanne Jeffrey the chair of the TU group that developed One Million Climate Jobs will also speak.

YOU DO IT! YOU DO IT!

YES - Ecocide is a crime!

The Earth's right to life was for the first time given true voice in a court of law. The venue was the UK Supreme Court and the law was the crime of Ecocide. Two CEO's were charged with crimes against nature and future generations. The verdict was unanimous for ecocide of the Tar Sands. See The Guardian's coverage for full story on the link.

On September 30th 2011, London’s Supreme Court of the United Kingdom was the venue for a Mock Trial, played out as though the crime of Ecocide had already been adopted.
