Cultivated Roots - Volume 1

Information:
Malvern based Sawmill/Steelmill Records is proud to announce its second charity release of 2009. The follow up to August’s ‘Riverbanks’ compilation is now available entitled ‘Cultivated Roots – A Compendium of Recordings from Worcestershire’s Folk Community’.

Worcestershire has a rich and vibrant folk music scene, with live music taking place somewhere on every night of the week. Singarounds, sessions and folk clubs can be found in pubs, village halls, function rooms and disused print works (I kid ye not) dotted all over the county.
Cultivated Roots celebrates all this by collecting together 17 fine examples of local folk musicians and groups. The album ranges from acappella vocalists to instrumental groups, from the traditional to the contemporary, from established recording artists (Fairport Convention’s Ric Sanders for example) to those who’ve just cut their first recording.

As with the more contemporary ‘Riverbanks’ acoustic compilation which we released in August, all the profits from this CD will be donated to charity. Our chosen cause this time is SARA - The Severn Area Rescue Association. This extremely important service provides In-shore rescue boat and land search services for the River Severn, and I’m sure you’ll agree, is a thoroughly worthwhile cause.
