Save the Fairfax Theatre!

Please join us in saving the historic 1929 art deco Fairfax Theatre in Los Angeles' Fairfax District, Fairfax Ave. & Beverly Blvd. A developer wants to tear down the theatre and build 71 condos/apartments and 12,000 sq. feet of retail.  See the Developer's Model for what they are proposing.  For our (Friends of the Fairfax Theatre's) case, please see our Nomination for Historical Designation.

This website is brought to you by West of Fairfax Neighbors, the neighborhood association between Fairfax Ave., Beverly Blvd., Cresent Heights, 3rd St. (west of The Grove shopping mall in Los Angeles' Fairfax District).

Here is a photo people on cinematreasures.org believed to be from shortly after the Fairfax Theatre opened in 1929.
Notice the dirt sidewalk on what is now highly congested Beverly Blvd.  Sorry we do not have a photo credit.

We have no date, caption or credit for this photo.  This maybe an early photo of a premiere or possibly even the grand opening.

Here is another early photo (probably in 1929 or the 1930s) of the Fairfax Theatre taken from the southeast coroner of Fairfax Ave. & Beverly Blvd., where CBS - Television City is today.  Notice the admissions price, 30 cents, anytime.

A more recent photo by Wendell Benedett
