SFFH Gives Support to New Pools Campaign

Individuals from the SFFH campaign, the Sydenham Society, the Forest Hill Society and the Tewkesbury Lodge Estate Residents’ Association met recently to start a new campaign called “Keep Swimming in Forest Hill”.  The aims of this campaign, which SFFH fully supports, are to call on the Mayor of Lewisham to deliver a high quality pool design, retaining the pools frontage block, on the Dartmouth Road site, in the immediate future.

“Keep Swimming in Forest Hill” is an alliance between members of local groups and will seek the endorsement of those groups as soon as possible.  We also have the support of the Forest Hill Traders’ Association.  This is wonderful news and means that the community groups in the Forest Hill area will be standing shoulder to shoulder on this issue.

The launch event on the pavement outside Barclays Bank on the corner of London Road and Dartmouth Road on Saturday 14th March went well and by the end of that weekend the new campaign had 1,000 names for its petition both on paper and online.

“We, the undersigned, call on the Mayor of Lewisham to replace the Victorian swimming pools on Dartmouth Road as soon as possible, while retaining the frontage block.  We ask the Council to keep swimming on the present site as this will help revive Forest Hill as a vibrant town centre.  A leisure centre hidden on Willow Way will damage the vitality of Forest Hill.”
