Dear Cardinal Maida,

 

We the undersigned parishioners of St. Rene Goupil request that you instruct Fr. Koehler to step down from his post as Pastor of our parish for the willfully destructive administration of the parish as detailed in the St. Rene Parish Pastoral Councils letter to our Vicar, Reverend Michael N. Cooney dated February 25, 2005.

 

We further request the immediate assignment of an interim administrator, preferably Reverend Michael N. Cooney, pending the assignment of a new full-time Pastor as provisioned through the normal assignment rotation cycle so as to ensure that all willing, able, and interested priests be given an equal and fair opportunity to be considered for the position.

 

Pending any decision or action to remove Fr. Koehler we expect and insist that he be prohibited from executing any further personnel or policy changes and that all financial matters and records be immediately transferred to the interim administrator with full access to all financial records granted to both the Parish Pastoral Council and the Finance Commission.

 

At this time we are also requesting you to instruct the Assignment Board to carefully re-read the St. Rene Parish profile provided by our parish representatives and to apply a more appropriate level of due diligence when vetting Fr. Koehlers successor than was used to select him. 

 

Finally, please know that we are taking the following action(s) until we receive the satisfaction due our faith community:

  •          Encourage your fellow parishioners, family, and friends to support our cause.  Anyone is free to join St. Rene as a parishioner by going to, or calling the parish office at: 586.939.7500.  Once you belong you have voice in the outcome of this matter.  If you are denied membership at St. Rene please advise us immediately!

 

  •          Send your Collection and CSA envelopes either empty or with a substantially reduced contribution with a note stating your objection to Fr. Koehler as pastor of St. Rene to:
