Summary of New Options

The following is a summary of the two development proposals for Laurie Park. More details can be found on the Department of Natural Resources website including the conceptual drawings of both options.

Option A High Level Description

Option B High Level Description

Majority of the development will be in the current camping portion of the park with minimal change to day use access and activities. Existing day use roads and flow of traffic will essentially stay the same as today.

Development includes both camping area and day use areas. A portion of the existing day use road (lower level) will be for pedestrian use only. Traffic flow on the main (center) day use area road will be revised to two-way traffic, using “pull offs” to allow traffic to pass.

Common Details to Both Options

  • New visitors services area that includes an office/administration building, camping visitor parking, registration and bypass lanes
  • Improved park entrance from Highway #2
  • New Off Season parking lot (15 to 20 cars) in advance of gate at bridge

Cost Estimate: 20% less than option B

  • Section of the existing shoreline road will be changed to pedestrian use only.
  • Traffic flow will be altered.  One road would lead to a new parking lot and pedestrian walking trails that go to the lower shoreline areas and picnic sites.
  • Traffic flow on the main (center) day use area road will be upgraded to two-way traffic, using “pull offs” to allow traffic to pass.
  • Improvements will be made to the existing Big Head parking lot, with delineation of parking spurs to maximize parking capacity, without cutting vegetation
