We just got word that DNR wants to postpone the grand re-opening ceremony on July 16th as the federal representative they were hoping would attend are not available. However their will still be cake to celebrate Canada's Parks day on the 16th. We will update everyone if DNR reschedules the re-opening ceremony! |

Harold Carroll provided us with the following update:
"The work at the park is moving right along. The recent wet weather is slowing down some of the work on the campsites, however, we are on target for opening in late June.
We are looking to have the official opening and ribbon cutting on Parks Day, July 16th. We are looking to make this more than a ribbon cutting, but more of a community celebration or welcome back to the park. To that end I am going to call a meeting of staff and hopefully one or two people from your group to brainstorm and share ideas on what the event can look like.
I expect that we will be coordinating this with our federal partners as they have inquired about this opportunity in the past."

We received this update from Harold Carroll on October 25th:
As you all are aware after the bridge repairs wrapped up the contractor building the new comfort station (central washroom and shower building) moved in to start work. Starting today, October 25th, the larger site work for the redevelopment of Laurie Provincial Park will begin. The contractor doing the roads, campsites and other site work will have a variety of equipment in the park as well as trucking materials. As a result of concerns for public safety in an active construction site the park is closed to the public for the next few months. It is not possible to have public walking in and around the park during this period of activity and as such the contractor will post the site as an active construction site and will have traffic control measures in place at the entrance.
We ask that you observe the closure for public safety purposes as well as the safety of the workers.
An open house will also be planned for later in November to allow people to view the progress of the work.

Effective September 20th, repairs will be underway on the bridge to Laurie Park. From September 20th to October 4th, the bridge will be unavailable for use by anyone except those involved with the construction project. This means the park is closed for the period and pedestrian use is not permitted, even when the construction crews are not on site as the area will be an active construction area with associated hazards.
The consultants should be forwarding a site plan (pdf drawing) for Laurie soon. DNR will post to the department web site at that time. We will update this site as well! |

So far no work has started on the park development. We have learned that there are some complications with the bridge and its ability to handle heavy loads that might be necessary during construction. We have been told that DNR are considering whether the bridge must be replaced or if it can be repaired sufficiently. DNR representatives have promised to update their website with these details in the coming weeks.
The tenders for the contracts for the required clearing closes on August 10th and the tender for the comfort station closes on August 17th. DNR anticipates work beginning shortly after those dates, particularly the clearing work. We have found one of the bids online here |

We have published the responses to questions raised at the public meetings March 2 and 3rd here . Also the latest information we have from DNR is as follows from Harold Carroll sent on April 28th, 2010:
"As an update for everyone we are advancing the planning work as I send this email. We have engaged CBCL as the manager for the project and are setting up project plans with them. We are still targeting June to initiate site work, knowing that its intensity will increase overtime."
