The Lighthouse Project 2.0

Welcome to the Lighthouse Project 2.0 - A project for Democratic Sustainability in Sarfannguit, Greenland.

The project is identifying and demonstrating practical and accessible solutions for improving energy use in existing Arctic houses.

Update, October 2009: Please note that the project is migrating to the NordSESIL Wiki about sustainable energy and once the move is complete this site will redirect there. So far the project wiki-pages are a work in progress, and the main activity at the moment is to produce a Phase 1 activity report to use as a platform for further action. See the project wikipages here.

The long-term project goals are to improve the standards of housing, help reduce the use of fossil fuels, change the patterns of energy consumption, fit sustainable energy solutions into existing and new houses, and to spread knowledge and skills all across the Arctic. Practically this goal is being reached by using one house in a normal Greenlandic community to test technologies and display building improvement techniques to the public. Thus, a typehouse in the Greenlandic housing stock is transformed into a showcase for small scale consumer oriented sustainable technologies, which are then further developed while a family inhabits the house.
