Summary description of the book:

This book was written as a generalist and comprehensive compendium of the activities of Emergency Response and Search and Rescue to those interested or involved in SAR; the inexperienced and more advanced, alike.  As the first of a 5 part series, this one could be considered a more 'generalised' and 'broad based' book with more specialised and detailed structure coming in the forth coming books.

For example, the USAR Component is useful for any first responder, Lay rescuer (like the teams I have taught in LEDCs (Less Economically Developed Countries) and also good for experienced SAR operators, first on scene - but who may not have the heavy and technical equipment or resources or training in the more advanced and equipment / manpower dependant, HUSAR (Heavy Urban Search and Rescue.)  Similarly with other specialised subjects like High Angle Rope Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, K-9 / Dog SAR, International Deployments, and so on... These are too detailed to cover in the already intensive 350 pages or so of this publication.

My intention was to give a broad based foundation to the world of SAR and Emergency Response with as much detail to give a strong level of competence and ability if being used as a training document too.  I must add though, that the future texts will in many ways assume the knowledge of this one - so this is a great book for training and I know many organisations and trainers, myself included, will use this for that purpose.

SECOND EDITION: There is a second edition of this book planned which will correct any errors and add some information, like more websites and further resources of other sources, teams, training, studies, etc.
