Running

In January, 2007, I decided to take try running.  Even though I had been working out regularly for several years, every time I tried to run I could only run for about 30 seconds at a time.  I read many recommendations for the Couch to 5K program (www.coolrunning.com) and I decided to give it a try!  It was one of the hardest challenges I have ever faced, both physically and emotionally.  But I stuck with it, and soon I was running 3 minutes at a time, then 10, the 30!  I set a goal to run a 5K in the Spring, and April 21st I met that goal!  I'm currently training for a 1/2 Marathon for Fall, 2007.

"The Mama Mia 5K"

My 1st 5K was a challenging first race since it was up the side of a mountain!  (The good part was that we ran back down, so the second half was all downhill.)  My friend Marnie was kind enough to run with me and keep me company.  I completed the race in just over 41:00.  To add to what made the day even more special, my friend Jill who lives in Ohio, who has also lost almost 100 lbs, ran her first 5K this same morning.  She did a GREAT job too!

My 2nd 5K  (May, 07) was a much smoother course -- it was totally flat, ahh!  I also wasn't nearly as nervous since I had already run one.  I finished it 39:00, but most I all I just had a lot of fun!  I totally enjoyed the whole experience.

There was a kids Bambino 100 yard dash and Rebekah and Kiersten ran in that.  Now they are racers like Mommy!
