Point of origin for the exhibition is the magazine ARCHIVO, a
bi-monthly paper for photography, issued and published by Willem van
Zoetendaal in cooperation with Paul Kooiker.

is a new, bi-monthly journal, fully dedicated to the personal archives
of photographers. Each issue presents the archives of two photographers
in two independent quires. The issues do neither wear a date, nor a
number. In Archivo it is the photography that makes the
difference.MKgalerie shows recents works from 15 artists and is curated
by Willem van Zoetendaal. Van Zoetendaal is very active in - foremost -
contemporary Dutch photography and his knowledge of contemporary
photography is important. He was professor at the Rietveld Academy in
Amsterdam, has curated exhibitions in museums and in institutions and
is a publisher.
.Archivo is published by Young Photographers Foundation and the Gerrit
Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and a project by Paul Kooiker and Willem
van Zoetendaal.

Es gab einmal eine Zeit, in der Menschen Angst hatten, fotografiert zu
werden. Ihre würde gestohlen werden, dachten sie, und sie hielten
schützend die Hand vors Mittlerweile hat sich die Angst nicht nur
gelegt, sondern scheint bei gewissen Persönlichkeiten sogar in einen
schonungslosen Offenbarungsdrang umgeschlagen zu sein. Fotografiere
mich, sonst bin ich nicht existent! Und mit dem Ablichten unserer
Liebsten dokumentieren wir beständig unser eigenes Gefühl – die Nähe zu
ihnen. Porträts werden gesammelt, Pinnwände gehängt und in
Handy-Galerien verschoben. Wir meinen, jemanden zu wenn wir nur
genügend Bilder von ihm (gemacht) haben.
Wie anders liegt der Fall, wenn eine Künstlerin Fotos
ihrer Schwester sammelt, arrangiert, bearbeitet – einer Schwester, die
zudem Popstar ist oder war und von der unzählige in den Medienarchiven
existieren! Hier mischen sich öffentliche und private Wahrnehmung und
eine Reflexion setzt ein, die ihren künstlerisch-kreativen Ausdruck bei
Sara in der Serie ›Linda‹ findet. Jedoch ist diese Linda – obwohl in
der Reihe 96 Bilder vermeintlichen Popstar zeigen – kein bisschen real.
Vielmehr vollzieht sich eine Aufsplitterung der vorgestellten
Persönlichkeit, die umso komplexer und tiefsinniger wird, je mehr
Konterfeie dem Betrachter zur Verfügung stehen........For the complete

In February I went for the first time to Surinam
(the land of origin of my father) I went there commisioned to
photograph the police Orchestra of Surinam. (initiative of Afra Jonker)
In Surinam with a population of no more than 500.000 they play an
important role in society. The book will be designed by Willem van
Zoetendaal. And will be published in November 2009.
