Where The Arts Teach, The Arts Connect and The Art Inspires

VAPA's Mission

One of the major areas of emphasis for VAPA is to develop Career Paths by engaging the student's interest, creating an classroom environment that mirrors real world details and offering our students personal experiences to carry forward. We desire to in still in our students working within one of the four department courses stated, that they are well prepared with the necessary tools and skill sets learned through a combination of personal experience and classroom study to take full advantage of the future opportunities through hard work and dedication.
The key to a successful future is through higher education,
and we will strive to insure that all our students know that a College path is something they're always being prepared for with highest of standards.

VAPA Parent program was created to bring together support for all four areas of the arts departments at Santiago High School. This is a Parent organization and family involvement is so very important, without your participation there can be no support system to help insure that your son or daughter is gaining the finest opportunities, in area that's been a host to so many budget cuts.

This site was created to keep you inform and updated please check back weekly and send us your email so we can keep updated as we develop our new organization.

Young artists, as compared with their peers, are likely to:

  • Attend music, art, and dance classes nearly three times as frequently
  • Participate in youth groups nearly four times as frequently
  • Read for pleasure nearly twice as often
  • Perform community service more than four times as often
(Living the Arts through Language + Learning: A Report on Community-based Youth
Organizations, Shirley Brice Heath, Stanford University and Carnegie Foundation For the
Advancement of Teaching, Americans for the Arts Monograph, November 1998)

The facts are that arts education...
  • Makes a tremendous impact on the developmental growth of every child and has proven to help level the "learning field" across socio-economic boundaries. (Involvement in the Artsand Success in Secondary School, James S. Catterall)
  • Has a measurable impact on youth at risk in deterring delinquent behavior and truancy problems while also increasing overall academic performance among those youth engaged in
after school and summer arts programs targeted toward delinquency prevention. (YouthARTS
    Development Project)
