  Welcome To Our Web 2008

A new 'face' for the New Year! It is always good to get a fresh start, and with the change of year I thought a change of 'face' might be just the thing to start out our 2nd year of new beginnings here at SPYC.  We had a great 2007, with membership growing far beyond any expectations; continuous beneficial surprises with more and more new faces helping to keep the momentum at a swift, but steady uphill climb, thus keeping me on my toes more than should be humanly possible! Art Lindwall says I've 'captured' perpetual motion - or have at least 'become one' with it!Admittedly it broke me a couple of times and I would have NEVER made it without being able to rely on Marie, knowing she was there to back me up, and even pick up the pieces, all the while thinking as I do, so I could put to rest that which needed it the most: my thoughts! Now THAT'S an accomplishment!  In my 'break-neck' pace of multiplying our 'regulars', and bringing about new venues of interest on a nightly basis, Marie helped keep the pace by incorporating her love of cooking, a couple nights of being hungry herself, along with HER flair for making everyhting taste just wonderful......and soon people were floating in on the aroma wafting out of the Club to all parts of the Marina. We have a handful of new members who have joined because of aroma alone!

Our other 'new addition' that grabbed another of the senses was a Baby Grand piano, donated to us by one of Phil Epstein's clients. Even out of tune from setting around for so long uncared for, many a night our own Chet Perkowski had the place hopping with a variety of music that had everybody singing, dancing, and having a good time.  That attracted attention even from those in the parking lot - good atention , at that! There have been a few others who have sallied up to the 1934 ________, some pretty good 'ivory ticklers' too, but there appears to be a sense of shyness when it comes to piano players........ ..Hmm?....Any volunteers?

"Catering to the Senses" is a basic and very logical way of attracting new members, being that they are human and it is just their 'gut-level-needs' & 'natural-instints' being addressed  and offered to on a regular basis, witha genuine smile to boot! Everyone likes to feel good, and everyone feels 'at home' once they've been to SPYC--many times even on their first visit. Hand-shakes, pats on the back and hugs are not uncommon actions and reactions here at the Club--which has been deemed by many..."The Friendliest Yacht Club I've Ever Been To!"  That's something to say!

Even though we had a lull during the summer months, NEW visitors have become members throughout the entire year! We even have a handful waiting in the wings 'til Jan to start  the new year. Not necessary, but...their choice.

Check out our membership statistics in the left margin.  With pride, I can say, "It has been a good year, and a nice rebirth of the Club".     ~P
