iTunes - iPod Feedback Notes

posted Dec 1, 2011 6:17 PM by Anantha Narayan

Some things i feel are difficult, So i give a feedback on my iTtunes and iPod Experience.

  • The Application Window-Frame in iTunes software needs to have pagination, takes to much mem, difficult to scroll. I got lot of freeware and now scrolling thru them to manage is difficult. 12 apps per page may be nice ?
  • I add videos and audio manually, drag and drop apps would be nice like audio video, The sync for a few apps takes a lot of time, Incremental Sync, Only Data Sync or Complete Sync options may help.
  • Windows Multithreading, This also may be a memory problem, it may also be a problem in my computer which is overloaded, i did not test in other machines. Sometimes when iTunes is busy, mouse clicks or drag is ignored, it does not indicate it is busy.

I upgraded iTunes 8 and iPod touch 2.1 and things worked smoothly. My iPod is working better than before.

In iTunes if you rename a name of a media which is very long, (podcasts) so that it suits iPod; The renaming sometimes plays the media. I feel playing and renaming could have different actions. Even in windows explorer i have faced this problem. Right click Rename is better. Playing can be accomplished by a small play button at the end of a media file.

In iPod file tree in iTunes, i was renaming, it stopped saying sync not possible as too many files open. Then when i removed and put iPod again, it said it will restore from the backup. The restore was quite quick. Every thing was like before.

This may be a crazy idea, but i think iTunes can be entirely online.

Quicktime can provide the USB interface to an iPod as the Client Software. Quicktime can have a iPod tab.

The entire GUI and media management of iTunes can be a WebApp. This way the iPod media can be managed, when traveling, or from any computer with Quicktime.

iPod as Electronic Wallet

If the iPod carries a secure, signed or uniquely identifiable processor or key, it can be used on any computer as a very secure Electronic Wallet. The USB interface provides a way of topping up the wallet. This because two computers are involved in the transaction. The PC and iPod.

Impedance Signalling in iPod Headphones

posted Dec 1, 2011 6:13 PM by Anantha Narayan

There is a solution in the remote Apple - iPod - In-Ear Headphones with Remote. I just trying to figure how i would do it...

If the iPod headphone resistance is say 100 ohms, it is incremented by 1 ohm by means of a tiny push switch on the headphone or in the cable, it will not disturb the iPod sound. This 1 ohm increase in resistance can be sensed by a DC 10uA constant current which will not be affected by the AC music circuit. Now by a click and double click we can signal a volume or next song. With two switches 101 ohm and 102 ohm you can get more control. There is no special connector for the headphone and it will work with older iPods as well. And as it uses impedance Signalling, there is no new noise in music.

An option for Ambient Acoustic Noise cancellation in iPod would make the music sound better. The microphone can be in the iPod and only the larger high pitched noises can be compensated. The same Mic can be used to auto adjust volume with ambient noise.

A certain volume setting during the day is not valid in the night as ambient noise is less and ears become more sensitive as sun sets.

The addition of a microphone in iPod will help using Google Talk for the iPhone for PC-to-PC voice calls.

Who Invented the iPad - Me !

posted Oct 31, 2011 9:38 PM by Anantha Narayan   [ updated May 24, 2012 9:17 AM ]

I have some suggestions or feedback on iPod. - Ananth

Need for Three iPod Sizes.

  • Standard - The present Size - Good for most.
  • Medium - 5" by 3" - Industrial use and Business tool.
  • Tablet - 10" by 6" - Educational and SOHO use.

Some iPod iPhone Apps Ideas

  • Magnetic Compass - Simulated. - Outdoors
  • Walking - Jogging - Recorder. - Health and Fitness
  • Speed of Movement - Walk, Car or Plane
  • PDF Collections Sync and View

Maybe with GPS.

Wifi port could also be used to interface with other devices like a WiFi Camera or Another iPod user. even when Router or Network absent. Like p2p iPod. !?

Feedback -

  • The 'i' button at the bottom, which is like 'about' needs to be bigger, it does not trigger easily like the 'Done' button.
  • The programs built must exit and free up mem and cpu. Some game programs are not exiting well. It needs Reboot. Home button should force exit, clear cpu and mem. Program makers should give an exit for the programs.

Apple or 'Steve Jobs' - Look Here - Gimme Credit

Later -Additions

I am running out of Desktops and Screen Space on my iPod Touch, I have only 9 desktops and have space for 16*9 = 144 Icons or Programs, Only.

When the Music Icon leads to so many music files, why the organizing for applications is limited. It could be that, i did not figure how to accommodate more than 144, some of which are used up by apple apps.

I find that there may be more than 600 very useful programs, which are free or paid apps from app store in iTunes. A provision for at least 500 icons would keep us going. I feel just a Program folder option will solve the problems, nested only one deep. Even an option of four colored folders for every desktop will solve the problem without stressing usability.
