Sebring Regatta............Leg 1

 Saturday, April 18th, 09

The Tanglewood club kicked the season with a great regatta at their Island sailing venue.
It is a great location with a good view. Pleasant surroundings and great hosts.
12 sailors registered for the Regatta. Skippers represented several locations and clubs. In attendance
were skippers from Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Titusville and of course Tanglewood.

John Egisi 1st place                                          Frank Thorley 2nd

The first race kicked off just after 12:30pm with 7 or 8 mph winds, as the day went on we
saw winds increase to near 20 mph. This is the kind of winds that makes you find the
weak spots in your Footy.  Most of the entries did manage to finish the nine races.
Finishing first was John Egisi which is no big suprise. John has been really successful with
his version of what a footy is supposed to be. Second was Frank Thorley which also no suprise.
Frank also has his own version of a Footy. Butch Bragg finished third also with yet another version
of the Footy. Adrian Sullivan finished fourth with his very nice 507.

Butch Bragg 3rd                                                   Adrian Sullivan 4th

Titusville Regatta...........Leg 3  June 20th

A big thanks to the newbee George and his friend Joe who served as Line Judge and Scorekeeper.
A big thanks to Bob and Daves support for helping make this regatta possible.

The first race began real close to the scheduled start time of 12:30 pm. on Saturday.
What little wind there was seemed to be constantly changing directions.
We had participants from Vero, Orlando and a record 6 footy entries from our club.
Some races were nearly drifting matches. The wind filled to maybe 5 mph at some races.
John Equizi managed to pull of 8 straight wins with his home built footy.
Great job John, congratulations!

Titusville Regatta...........Leg 4  July 25th

Leg four kicked off at 12:30 pm with six skippers.
Clubs represented in the event are as follows: Sebring, Orlando, Vero and Titusville.
The wind was fairly consistent and made for a good day of sailing. During one race the wind
seemed to be constantly shifting and offered a challenge to keep up with its direction.
Finishing first but having to earn it was John Equizi.
Second was Butch Bragg followed by a Third place finish from Dave Geiesse.
John had 5 first place finishes, Butch 3 firsts and Dave had 2.
Overall it was a fun but hot day.

A big thanks to our new members George and Mike.
Thanks guys for the canopies and filling the officiating positions.
Thank you for your participation in our club. Great Job !!!

Orlando Regatta............Leg 5

 Saturday, August 15th, 09

left to right Dave and Darrell, John Equizi, George and Darrell.

The first race kicked off just after 12:30pm with 7 or 8 mph winds, as the day went on we
saw winds increase to 10 to 12 mph with gusts. Lots of Footys were observed doing the Footy dive.
The last race finished just before the rain started and we moved to cover for the awards.
It was noticed in this event is that almost all entries managed to finish the 10 races.
In our earlier regattas would start with 10 or 12 boats and only 3 or 4 would complete the event.
Looks like the designs and rigging are definately improving and the little boat is evolving.
Finishing first was was Dave Griesse with a Shark. Dave edged out John Egisi John finished with a second.
A newbie from the Titusville group, George Reed finished 3rd with a Shark also.
Butch Bragg finished with a 4th place with a shark.
I will post the final scores as soon as they are forwarded to me by

These scores reflect a series of five Regatta's consisting of 10 races each.
A total of 50 races. There were four sailing clubs who participated in this series.

Plans for a new series with some modifications are underway.

Rules of this series stated it has to fit in the box and change sails as you wish.
New clarifications have been made to the box rudder rules so we will abide by those
in the upcoming series.
The new rule states it has to fit in the box and the rudder must have full range of movement.
We have agreed that the sails should have some restrictions as does the international rules for the class.
We also agreed that the international sail rules does not fit particularly well in Florida.
So sail rules governing the series are as follows:
You may use 3 sails, one of which is under 12 inches. That entitles the skipper to have 2 usable sails.
We find that a sail under 12 inches has no value in Florida.

So get the boats ready adjust your rudders if needed and prepare for XFC.
