My StoryLittle Background
I was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1978 and immigrated to the Northwest in 1983. My parents were working class, my mother worked as a member of the textile union and my father worked at various companies assembling electronic components in the Canyon Park area. With hard work and determination, I graduated from Lynnwood High School, obtained a Business degree from the University of Washington and a Law degree from Seattle University. In the past I have been also been a board member of the Korean American Professionals Society, member of the Korean American Bar Association and current member of the Washington State Bar Association. Aside from my formal education I have also worked in diverse communties from different areas in the Puget Sound region ranging from teaching taekwondo at the Tulalip Indian Reservation YMCA, teaching Street Law to High School students in Tacoma and managing a computer lab at a community center in Seattle's Central District. Caucus My caucus journey started when a former co-worker from Microsoft from Portugal asked me what a caucus was. Although I have lived in Washington most of my life, I couldn't fully explain the system, I decided to attend to better educate myself and in part to educate others. I attended my first caucus, it was confusing, it was interesting, it was Democracy. Somehow I got on to the next level, I thought someone who is of color should represent my precinct as the neighborhood I live in has a sizable minority population. At the 1st Legislative District level, 100 delegates voted for me to get the Congressional District Caucus representing the 1st Legislative District. At all levels of the caucus, I met new people in fields and backgrounds much different than my own. These people of all races, sizes, ages including military veterans, firefighters, college professors, students all united in their goal of electing Barack Obama for President. Any anger and bitterness over the 2000 election slowly subsided and it has given me hope. When I first generated this website, I showed it to a small close group of friends for critque. I didn't expect much, maybe some spelling corrections or other sloppy mistakes would be pointed out. However, one friend, an Airforce Captain before leaving for Qatar began showing this page to some of his friends as well. This was when I realized that running for the National Covention delegation wasn't simply about going to Denver and seeing Obama speak, it was more about changing attitudes that a person can in fact promote change by the simple act of voting.
