Apiary sites

The Association is fortunate to have access to two private apiaries where members are welcome to visit for guidance on bee husbandry.  One is in Laverstock and the other in the Chalke Valley.

Laverstock: This apiary is managed by our Association Chairman Graham Rendall. Graham runs hives of several different styles to enable new members to experience the benefits and problems associated with each type. Graham is always willing to demonstrate different ways of dealing with beekeeping challenges

Chalke Valley:  This apiary belongs to Tony Herbert, Chairman of the Salisbury Bee Breeding Group. The apiary is located in the Chalke Valley and is open to members on most Sunday mornings between May and August from 10 o'clock onwards for hands-on training in queen rearing techniques and general colony maintenance.  Please note, access is only possible by 4x4 vehicles.

Tony runs 14x12 deep hives, Dartington Long Hives and has wooden and concrete examples of Kenyan Top bar hives that are used for training gap-year students for beekeeping in Tanzania. He is always experimenting with new beekeeping techniques, so come along and join in the fun.

Interested members can contact Tony at home on 01722 780167 to ensure that he will be visiting the apiary on any particular day.
