Muang (City) Sakonnakhon, Sakon Nakhon
Udon Thani (90.8 km) to the west. Nakhon Phanom (124 km) to the east. That Phanom (132 km) and Mukdahan (173 km) to the southeast. Phu Phek mountains (30 km) and Kalasin (167 km) to the southwest. Sakon Nakhon has been growing somewhat rapidly in recent years with a number of new businesses, housing projects and new highways. The city is a farm support community with shops selling anything a farmer may need. A number of rice mills, fresh produce markets and numerous services, in support of local farmers. Home to the Provincial headquarters, claiming the title of international city, Sakon Nakhon also prides itself in a devout Buddhist heritage and culture.
