Excerpt From: A Few Memories Rise of the Empire Era: Sakiko Ryuuzaki and Connor Makoto-Tano I picked up my comlink after I heard the two-chime pattern of my former Master Talon. “Yeah, Connor here.” “Connor, Master David just informed me that Sakiko is on her first solo mission somewhere in your area. She was only promoted to Knight a few days ago—“ “Wait, wait. I see where you are going, you want me to keep an eye out for her because she has the ‘overly cocky new knight syndrome’?” I laughed scanning the Coruscant scenery before me. Master Talon sighed irritated, “You were like that too once. She is in the office complex building, somewhere off to your left I think. Sakiko is trying to persuade the Crime Lord there to give the location of his weapons factory.” “Yeah, I think I know which one you’re talking about. I’ll go take a look and see if I can find her.” “I think you’re old enough that I don’t have to tell you to behave. Good luck.” He cut the transmission. So newbie Knight Sakiko has a Crime Lord for her first mission. Seems too difficult for someone like her. I walked through the streets to a tall silver building with glowing yellow windows towards the top. Inside on the upper levels glass shattered and blaster fire flew through the sky. And she’s not even bothering to keep the scene tidy. Just something that a newbie would fail to care about. I walked through the front door to find all the holocams and simple guard droids taken out. Slowly I made my way to the turbo lift at the end of the dimly lit hall. Sakiko must have already been here. I walked into the lift and stared at what I saw inside. Several saber gashed were in the wall and there was a small hole in the ceiling. I scanned the control panel for the top most floors and pressed one of the buttons. Patiently I waited. The turbo lift made a strange noise and jolted to a stop. I rolled my eyes and cut an even bigger hold in the top to climb out of. The durasteel walls were perfect for climbing, so I slowly made my way up the wall. Only a few more levels until I reach the office, at least I think so. All the noise was a few floors above me anyway. A few yards up a door shot open and a figure fell past me. I let go and fell with the mysterious person. I grabbed the person's arm and pulled him or her towards me. “Hey—“ “Connor?! What the Hell are you doing here?” Sakiko glared at me. “Well I’ll soon be cleaning up after your mess.” We
landed on the stalled turbo lift and I jumped through the hole. Sakiko stayed
on top and refused to look down at me. “You can sit there and pout or you can come help me in here.” I called opening a box filled with many coloured wires. | “I never needed or even asked for help. Why don’t you just leave and let me finish.” “You clearly need help on this one, now get in here.” I rolled my eyes reaching my hand in to grab a black wire. The lights flickered and there was a loud bang. I looked up to find Sakiko staring at something above her. Coming down at us at a great speed was another turbo lift. Oh that’s just great… I thought and stood up. “Sakiko get in here now!” I yelled. She just stood there staring up at the lift frozen. “Damn it Sakiko don’t just stand there! This is no time to freeze up!” The lift raced even closer to us. My heart pounded in my chest as Sakiko refused to move. I leaped up through the hold and shoved both of us down right as the turbo lift collided, jerking us around. There was a loud screeching noise as metal was forced against metal. I hovered over Sakiko’s motionless body in attempt to protect her and stop the metal from crushing us. I yelled in pain as a few durasteel spikes pierced my back. A red fluid was beginning to puddle by Sakiko’s head; she was knocked out. Damn it, not the right time to be useless. I moved over her body sitting on her stomach holding the metal up with my back. I gasped and sat up, hovering with her head between my legs. With my saber I cut a hole for us to slip through. I paused to look down and realized the position I was in. This would be perfect if she was awake. I pushed the fantasy of us together out of my head and moved back, still holding the metal, and picked her up. This was going to be a close one. We fell through the hole and rolled through the door as we hit the ground. Behind us the turbo lifts crashed into the floor causing shards, dust and smoke to fill the hall. I panted as I lay there on the ground, holding Sakiko tightly against my chest. She stirred slightly and moved her head so she could look at me.She blushed and struggled to get up. “Let go of me.” She whispered. I held her tighter. “I don’t want to.” Her tense body went limp and she closed her eyes. “Thank you.” My eyebrows rose in surprise, “What was that?” “Nothing.” I stroked her hair feeling the matted mess of wet blood and sat up. I stared at her with a worried expression. “I’ll be fine. Probably just a minor concussion.” My face moved closer to hers, “That seems serious to me.” Her gaze rested on my eyes and she struggled for words. “It’s nothing I can’t heal with the help of the Jedi Healers. Please now, let get.” My lips brushed her neck then rested on her lips. She pulled away and stared at me in surprise. “What are you doing?” She cried. “Making the first move… and most likely breaking several rules too.” I sighed.
I
kissed her lips and she kissed back.
