Everyone at SLJSA is excited to be back on the water. SLJSA is offering a great slate of learn to sail opportunities for all ages. The SLYC Jr. Race Team is set to represent SLYC in competitive events throughout the midwest. Summer 2011 Sailing ClassesOpti 1 & 2, Beginning Butterfly & Fly Camp
Opti 1 This class designed for beginner sailors and focuses on the basics of sailing, including boat parts and their function, points of sail, wind direction and water safety. The class will be held in Optimist Prams. Ages 6 & up 9am - 11 am. Opti 2 Designed for advanced beginner sailors to build more knowledge of boat parts, points of sail, wind direction and water safety while becoming a proficient sailor. Ages 8 & up 11 am - 1 pm Beginning Butterfly – This class is ideal for the first time or beginning sailor who is ready for a larger boat. This class introduces boat parts, rigging, steering and points of sail. Ages 9 & up 10am - 12pm Fly Camp This class is designed for the sailor who has completed two years at the beginning level. The curriculum focuses on improving boat-handling skills with an introduction to the fundamentals of racing. This class will be held primarily in Butterflies. Ages 9 & up 12pm - 2pm Explorers
Opti and Butterfly Race Team
Opti Race Team Designed for the young competitive sailor who have completed Opti 1 and 2. Focusing on tactics, courses. Students are encouraged to race in the Wednesday Afternoon Opti Races at the SLYC and to compete with other youth sailors in bi-weekly West Michigan Youth Sailing Regattas. This class will be taught primarily in Optimist Prams. Butterfly Race Team Designed for the competitive sailor, focusing on tactics, courses and advanced sailing theory. Students are encouraged to race in the Wednesday Butterfly Races at the SLYC and to compete with other youth sailors in bi-weekly West Michigan Youth Sailing Regattas. This class will be taught primarily in Butterflies.
