Registration for Learning, Training & Race Groups Overview The Pt Chevalier Sailing Club runs a junior program for kids, teenagers and adults. There are essentially four streams of learning at PCSC.1. Sailing in Optimists for Juniors. 2. Sailing in Starlings, Laser 4.7 & Splash for teenagers. 3. Sailing in Lasers & Splash for 18yrs+ adult groups. 4. Learn to Sail Short courses that run over two weekends for adults. The first three run after school or work on a week day in terms one and four, the fourth is on two weekends. All of them follow the Learn to Sail Syllabus for learners, then develop into groups for intermediate sailors and racers. We have boats you can use to get you started for the first term. Separate to this the Club has race groups and racing that takes place on Sundays so you can have fun and put it all into practice. What we do You’ll learn how to sail a dinghy – or if you already know we will put you in a group with others of similar ability, including sailors and racers to all levels. Each session will have a briefing before and after and we will work on all the things you need to know to be able to control your vessel confidently. We’ll be doing a combination of adventure sailing and round the buoys. If the weather is bad we’ll be learning how to tie knots, and we’ll go over things like tides, wind, and boat setup or fun stuff like ocean swimming back to shore with all our gear on. The idea is to have fun and gain confidence – leading to racing for those who are confident and keen. This takes place after school (or work) during week days in term one and term four. If you want a shorter weekend course over a couple of weekends to teach adults to sail, see the separate web page for details on that. Boats If you have an Optimist, Starling or Laser dinghy that is ideal. If you want to get a dinghy we can give advice. Up to 50kg Optimist, 9yrs and up. 50-65kg Starling, teens. 65kg+ Laser Radial. Following this are a number of Senior Classes based on ability and your inclination.
Cost Club membership for a family is $140 (covers a whole family and any number of siblings up to age of 18yrs) or Senior Member over 18yrs $120 or Junior $55 (covers only one junior up to 18yrs) Term Course fees $100 per person. First timer use of a WW Optimist, Splash or Laser 4.7 so you don't need your own boat is $50 per term.
We need parents/partners to help crew patrol boats, monitor the sign in/out sheet, bring up trolleys, hose down boats, put stuff away, monitor kids to make sure boats are packed up properly, make hot drinks for kids and offer encouragement. Parents don’t need to be sailors but if they are - great.
