Flower of Caithness Sailing Holidays.

The schooner 'Flower of Caithness' was launched into the Pentland Firth in 1997. Having being built at her skipper's boatyard in the hamlet of Scarfskerry on the North Coast of Scotland. She was designed in Maine U.S.A. in 1934. Her skipper and builder, Peter Matheson, has spent many years at sea in both British and foreign merchant ships and has also operated fishing vessels in the Pentland Firth and around the North of Scotland. He has sailed the schooner in the 1999 Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race. Sailing from the Pentland Firth to Greenock to join the race.  

The 'Flower' has chartered extensivley, mainly around the North and West coasts of Scotland,  She has sailed to countless Scottish Islands, as far north as Lerwick in the Shetland Islands,  as far south as Mull  and out into the 'Western ocean' as far as St. Kilda.

The 'Flower of Caithness' is now based at Glasgow and charters in the Firth of Clyde and on Scotlands West Coast and Islands. She has just completed an extensive refit by her Skipper and builder. Peter now builds boats and provides free training in  boat building at his boatyard in Glasgow. When not sailing the family schooner he builds traditional vessels of up to fifty foot.

The 'Boy Peter' a brand new 32 foot wooden charter vessel has just been completed for the Matheson family at his boatyard. This new boat  has been designed for wheelchair access. She will operate in conjunction with the schooner. The two vessels meeting up at various anchorages and harbours for a 'get together'. Sailing in company etc. The 'Boy Peter' has a large deck area which is ideal for entertaining guests from both vessels. Transporting the 16 foot Grand Banks dory etc.

Guests of all ages will find a 'hands on' cruise on the 'Flower of Caithness' or on the 'Boy Peter' a unique experience. The vessels are excellent for both the experienced sailor who wishes to sail on a traditional American 'Down East' schooner and for the young or not so young novice, who has never sailed before. Unlike modern 'plastic boats', these traditional vessels have loads of deck space for working the sails, sunbathing, or simply going for a 'stroll'. For the people interested in traditional sailing or traditional boat building (With us you can combine both) a cruise on one or both of our vessels is a must.

Both vessels are equipted with toilet/shower etc. A maximum of six guests are carried on each vessel. There are three cabins on the 'Flower of Caithness' Two cabins (and a wheelhouse) on the newly built 'Boy Peter'. In the tradition of the American charter schooners we will endeavour to provide a 'Lobster Bake' on each trip. either on a beach ashore or on board. For transport ashore we carry a 'rib' on board the schooner and a traditional wooden Grand Banks dory on the 'Boy Peter'
