Hi! I am Saut Sagala.
I currently live with my family in Kyoto, Japan. As recently I live in Japan, I am also called as 'サガラ' or pronounced as  "Sagara".  I am currently completing my PhD Study (2006 - 2009) in the field of disaster risk reduction at Graduate School of Engineering Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan. 

My current PhD research is concerned on preparedness by local communities at Mt. Merapi, Yogyakarta. For those who are not familiar with this topic may refer to a term Disaster Risk Reduction (detailed explanation by Wikipedia). In addition, I also carried out survey in the communities in three different cities (Kagoshima, Sakurajima and Tarumizu) affected by Mt. Sakurajima.

rior to my PhD study, I received my master in GIS application for urban planning and disaster management from International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), Enschede, The Netherlands and bachelor degree in urban planning from Institute of Technology Bandung, Bandung, Indonesia.

My working / study place experiences have been in 
Palembang, Bandung and Yogyakarta (Indonesia), Enschede (The Netherlands), Naga City
