Traffic pattern limitations have been established for the competition and are as follows:
Upwind: No limit. Recommend turning crosswind when within 300' of pattern altitude. Do not turn lower than 400' AGL.
Crosswind: Regulated by the downwind limitation below. (May not be longer than 0.75 NM)
Downwind: May not be flown wider than 0.75 NM away from the runway centerline. Preferred to fly at 0.5 NM away from centerline.
Base: May not be flown wider than 1.25 NM away from the runway threshold.
Final: Regulated by the base leg limitation above.
The pictures on the downloads page depict the maximum limits of 0.75 NM wide downwind and 1.25 NM wide base leg. The movies show the view flying over those limits from approximately 1,600' AGL.
The 2010 Landing Patterns.kmz file may be downloaded and opened in GoogleEarth. This file contains the points and flight paths used to generate the pictures and the movies. If downloaded, you will be able to view a higher resolution flyby in GoogleEarth and will be able to manipulate the view any way you like. I recommend thorough review of this material to become familiar with landmarks that will ensure you remain within the prescribed traffic pattern limitations. |
