- Friday, Feb. 17th is also when Tuesday after school registrations are due back for next session
SAC. LOWER PLAYGROUND PLANTING DAY, THIS SUNDAY
2/12 FROM 10:00 TILL ???? The plants will be here ready to be put into their new digs (pun intended). We are not done spiffying up our lower playground quite yet! Please come help with the planting; if you have spades, forks, gloves...general hand tools please bring them along. TAKE ACTIONLegislative Hotline 1-800-562-6000 Do you want to send a message to your Senator or Representative? Call the legislative HOTLINE at 1-800-562-6000. Callers to the Hotline can leave a brief message for their district legislators or for the Governor or Lt. Governor on issues of concern or on questions they may have about bills or laws. These messages are forwarded electronically to the appropriate individuals. When leaving a message with the Hotline, please be prepared to give your name and street address. For non-English speaking callers, they offer interpreter services for many languages. During the Legislative session, the Hotline is open from 8AM to 8PM Monday through Friday and from 9AM to 1PM on Saturday.
The Washington legislature is considering education funding right now. Click the Washington State PTA " Legislative Action Center" to quickly send a message to legislators that we need immediate, continuous education funding.

PLAYGROUND MEETING
Tuesday, January 31; 6-8 p.m. Sacajawea Lunch Room The PTA’s Grounds Steering Committee has been working hard to move forward with plans to renovate our upper playground. We received a grant to hire a professional design firm (SiteWorkshop) to develop a vision and master plan for transforming our outdoors spaces. Now we need YOUR input. SPRING AUCTION: It’s time to roll up our sleeves and put all of our efforts into procuring items for the Spring Auction on April 28th. In the next two weeks, please come forward to put your time into making the auction a success. New Auction Website! This is how it works: 1. You ask your favorite businesses to donate items to our Spring Auction. 2. The item is put up for bid at the auction. 3. The item is sold to the highest bidder on auction night! For every completed procurement form you submit, the Auction Committee will put your name into a drawing for the Procurement Gift Basket on display in the office. The more you procure, the more chances you have to win!
Look for a copy of this year’s procurement letter and the procurement form to come home soon!
Take them with you to your favorite businesses. This could be your favorite restaurant, mechanic, hotel, ski resort. All you have to do is ask for a donation to the Auction, have the manager or owner fill out the form with contact information and then return the form to the school before March 31st

Science Fair--Thursday, February 16th for a great exhibition of our students scientific experiments and theories! We could still use more volunteers. Be part of this amazing showcase for our school (over 50% participation each year). Contact Jay Shoji, Committee Chair jay.m.shoji@gmail.com for more information. Incoming Kindergarten Open House will take place Thursday, February 16th at 5:30 and be followed by our Science Fair this year! Do you have a friend or neighbor with a child ready to enter our Kindergarten program next school year? Invite them to attend our Kindergarten Open House followed by the Science Fair. This is great way to share our school’s energized and compassionate community and also introduce them to our wonderful principal, teachers and staff.
VERY SPECIAL PERFORMANCE: The performers are elementary students, organized by Dan Trinh, Anh Trinh’s brother. The Arts and Culture Committee has planned a Dragon Dance Assembly for the Chinese New Year Celebration. The assembly date and time is Wednesday, January 25th from 10:00 – 10:30. All welcome.
According to Dan’s tradition, the dragon brings wisdom, wealth, and happiness. You might tell your children this ahead of time. Dan requests that the students who have Asian costumes be encouraged to wear them that day.
HELP US WELCOMING: New PTA Board Member, Catherine Peng into the VP of Fundraising position and welcoming Mark Hadley into the PTA Website Manager position. Please take a moment to say hello and introduce yourself to Catherine and Mark.
As winter settles in and the days grow colder, getting outside to stay connected with our school friends can be more difficult. To keep our connections growing, join the Family Partnership Committee at their upcoming Family Game Night: Friday, January 20th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in our cafeteria. Pizza and games are provided! SPRING AUCTION VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We need your help to procure items and services from our local business community. Would you like to support the school from closer to home? PTA COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Our PTA has several open positions for this school year. We're looking for a few dedicated people to help with with the following:
- Spring Auction
Procurement Team Member: In this role you will work
with a lively team of volunteers to contact businesses and ask them to
donate items, packages and experiences in support of our Spring Auction on
April 28th.
- PTA Website
Content Manager: In this
role you will be responsible for uploading content updates to our PTA Website
on a weekly basis (Sunday evening or Monday morning work great).
What’s great about this position is that it can be done right from
your home computer.
- Hospitality: This role supports our
Principal Chats, PTA Board Meetings & General Meetings, Kindergarten
Summer Meet-ups and Welcome Tea by coordinating refreshements and support
volunteers when needed. What’s great about this position is that it
gives you an opportunity to get to know the parents and staff at our
school and gives you a chance to learn about the issues and programs the
school has to offer. You will coordinate by phone & email and be
on-site to prep for the meetings and events you’ve signed up
for. It is a great introduction to the school.
- Spring Arts
Festival Coordinator: In this
role you will be the go-to contact for all aspects of the Spring Arts
Festival with your responsibilities focused on planning and facilitating
with the help of a talented and supportive volunteer staff. What’s
great about this position is that you will have an opportunity to lead a
great group of people and you’ll be able to spotlight your
creativity, organization and project management skills along the way!
- VP of Fundraising: In this role you will be the go-to contact for
our volunteers working on a variety of fund raising projects. You will
help forecast revenue and track progress. Your main focus will be on the
Auction in April and the Pancake Breakfast in June.
- Pancake Breakfast Organizer: In this role you will work
with staff and parent volunteers to coordinate the annual Pancake
Breakfast which supports our 4th & 5th grade
fall camping trip.

Oct. 28th: National PTA offers grants to support "Take Your Family to School" week February 12-18th. Take
your family to school week will be February 12-18, 2012, and National
PTA is offering local units the opportunity to apply for one of 45
grants of $1,000 each to support your program. This 1,000 can be used to
implement programs that engage families in the school community. If you

We are fortunate to have a tremendous network of parents willing to give their time and energy to making our school the best it can be.
A warm Thank You to the everyone who came to the SPT & Sacajawea production of THE HOBBIT. And, a huge THANK YOU to the parent volunteers, the directing and supporting staff of Seattle Public Theater and, especially, to our talented and dedicated students who worked so hard to make their performance of THE HOBBIT a terrific show! You all are truly amazing!
