Dear All,
I hope everyone has been enjoying a really wonderful half-term. We have been very lucky with the weather and I've spent most of the week in our garden. You are all most welcome to come and visit us, so if you plan to spend a day on Camber Sands, you probably pass within 100 yards of our house during the journey, so leave time to drop in and see us!
Nigel Bailey, the organiser of WESTERHAM MUSIC DAY, wrote to thank us all for taking part. They were "delighted by the spirit of the choir and hope they will continue to entertain us in the future." It was a very successful day and raised a lot of money for the St Mary's Westerham Heritage Trust.
The second half of our term is short and sharp.
Saturday 12 June is our last rehearsal at Solefield School as we have performances the following two Saturdays.
SEVENOAKS SUMMER FESTIVAL DAY is Saturday 19 JUNE and we will perform as usual outside the Black Boy Inn - Bligh's Meadow from 10 - 11 am. We meet at 9.30 in that spot and get ourselves organised and warm up. Hopefully the sun will shine on us and we will perform "Into the Musical Box." The organisers will make provision for our performance to go ahead even if it's raining, so please assume it's on, whether it rains or shines!
SEVENOAKS SUMMER FESTIVAL CONCERT - FAREWELL TO ANTHONY - SATURDAY 26 JUNE AT 7.30 pm in The Drive Methodist Church, Sevenoaks. This is a combined concert with the adult choir and we shall be rehearsing at 5.30 pm in the church. (No morning rehearsal at Solefield School). Between the rehearsal and the concert, there will be a tea provided for the children in the church hall. I believe that the adult choir is planning to make this a rather special tea, to mark my departure. Further information about the concert and tickets for this concert are available from the Sevenoaks Summer Festival box office. Of course the children won't need tickets for the concert but may I suggest that parents book up as soon as possible? I hope this will be an incredibly special finale to my time with the Sackville choirs.
Please wear usual concert clothes (ie dark shoes - no trainers please! - dark trousers or skirts and plain, and brightly coloured t-shirts or blouses without logos.
Please remember that no one should drive into Solefield School grounds. It really is dangerous if lots of cars come in and try turning round when there are so many children around. Please make sure that the children come to choir and get home safely.
If anyone hasn't paid this term's sub., please do so as soon as possible and I attach the sub form for your completion. I should point out that next term there will be a small increase in the termly sub.. This hasn't been increased for many, many years, but next term, it will become £40 for singing and £10 for drama, being a total of £50 per term. Finally, thank you to Sofia Pesic's mother, Daloni Carlisle, for placing such a nice article about me in the current edition of The Vine magazine. It has been amazing to work with so many young people in Sevenoaks over the last twenty years. What talent there is and how lucky I have been to give so many young people their first taste of public performing. Of course I shall miss you all but hope that you will stay in touch and that I shall be able to come and hear you in concert in the future. I know the choir will continue to thriver under the leadership of Jozik Kotz. It has been my good fortune to have had the support of Nick Quiney for many years and I am very glad that he will continue in his role as choir accompanist with Jozik. Thank you also to Olivia Ward for her help with playground supervision and to Janneke Dupre, and her mother Clare, for all they have contributed to the choir. I could not have done anything without the support of my wife and family, so thank you, Jane, Ben, Hannah and Rachel! It has been a real team effort.
Happy singing!
Anthony
