What You'll Need When Adopting A Dog . . .

3) An ID tag (can be made on the spot at PetSmart or PetCo).

I always recommend putting REWARD instead of the dog's name, because it makes certain people who find a dog more inclined to call you.  I also usually put a couple of different phone numbers.  Sometimes I even make a second tag and just put SPAYED on it, because "bad guys" are less likely to want spayed dogs.

4) A dog crate

5) A Kong toy

6) I also recommend a baby gate in the beginning to limit a dog's access to certain areas of the house.

7) Stainless steel food/water bowls

8) A dog bed

9) A buckle collar (preferably rolled leather)

10) A 6-foot leather leash. Try to find one that is soft leather.

11) A padlock for your gate

12) High quality food

13) And don't forget to . . .
     a) Contact your local animal shelter right away and license your new pet.
     b) Get your dog microchipped and be sure to register your contact information with the microchip company.
     c) If the dog is already microchipped, be sure to update your contact info with the microchip company.
