Overview This site is meant to serve as an on-line companion to the new Charlottesville City Schools' (CCS) Elementary Spanish Program. Students in the kindergarten classes get two, 30 minute periods of Spanish each week, sometimes on back to back days. This on-line component seeks to provide an opportunity for additional reinforcement of vocabulary & language skills throughout the week. It will be designed so that parents can work with their children at home or individual students can practice independently at home or in their classroom. The site will be designed with non-readers in mind and visitors will be able to click on either side of a picture to hear the object's name in both Spanish and English. In this way we hope that ESL students will also benefit from the site. For the Spanish voices we hope to enlist the help of native speakers from the Charlottesville City Schools community: parents, students, grandparents, etc. We also hope to provide links to other content related activities such as games, songs, etc. for even more practice. Format
CCS has asked that we use Moodle, an Open Source on-line application that "is designed to help educators create online courses with opportunities for rich interaction" Wikipedia) A little like Google Sites, but no ads and sans cool gadgets.
