View’s Marker grabs gold By Benn Farrell | 0 commentsObviously, Gus Marker wanted to win a state wrestling title for himself.But even more, he wanted to make his parents, family, coaches and friends proud of him.Marker, a senior with Castle View High School wrestling at 195 pounds, won his first state gold medal Feb. 18 at the Pepsi Center in Denver during the Class 5A state championship meet. Marker’s place atop the podium came after an 8-4 decision against Pine Creek’s Brandon Tribble in the 195 finals.Marker wasn’t alone in the meet’s finals rounds. View sophomore handling three-class jump on mats By Benn Farrell | 0 commentsKaleb Geiger put on some muscle from the 130-pound weight class he was wrestling at last year.And that has become a double-edged sword for the Castle View High School sophomore.Now in his second season of Sabercats wrestling, Geiger has jumped up to 152 pounds, giving him more beef and facing a much higher level of competition. Having moved up three weight classes, Geiger find himself facing mostly upperclassmen in his bouts.“At 152, they’re built more, and they’re hairier than I am,” the sophomore said.He also noticed a lot of his competition tends to ride the legs, so Geiger has focused on training on his leg defenses.
