Print Resources:

     Below are just some of the print resources available to you. Some of the resources are circulating and some may be found in the Reference Collection, located on the 3rd floor of the Potter Library. What's important about the Reference Collection? It can help you fine-tune an idea in addition to pointing you to additional sources that you may find useful. These additional sources are found in the bibliography  and/or in the "For Further Reading" section
at the end of a passage. Don't pass this important collection by!

  • Want a tip for search for print materials?
    • Call numbers mean something! Books are housed by subject area and the call number indicates what area the item covers.
    • Also, it you find a great reference source, write down the letters and the first string of numbers (ex. HQ4493). Then try looking in that area in the circulating section. You may find more great materials!

Electronic Resources:

     Below are selected databases to try with your research. The Library offers many databases to pick from, but these are a little more subject specific. Remember, its good to try a few databases out when researching and not limit yourself to one.

Lexis-Nexis Academic (a.k.a. Academic Universe)
Provides company and legal information as well as access to many worldwide news publications.
Sociological Abstracts
 A great source for a sociological approach to research. Limited full-text, but click on "check availability at Ramapo" to see if the Library has full-text access in another database or in Print.
Proquest Central
Allows you to search many Proquest databases, which includes Proquest ewspapers (an index of many many news publications) and Psychology Journals.
Medline
MEDLINE® provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE uses MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) indexing with tree numbers, tree hierarchy and explosion capabilities to search abstracts from over 4,800 current biomedical journals.
Alt-Health Watch
A full text and image database covering the full spectrum of Alternative Medicine subject areas, Alt HealthWatch focuses on complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness.
CINAHL
CINAHL,provides indexing for over 1,835 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health. The database contains more than 1,000,000 records dating back to 1982. Full text material includes nearly 70 journals plus legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials.
Communication and Mass Media
Communication & Mass Media Complete provides the most robust, quality research solution in areas related to communication and mass media.
Education Journals
Offering complete information on hundreds of educational topics, this database covers almost 400 leading journals in the field.
JStor Complete
JSTOR complete covers archival full-text scholarly articles in the arts and sciences, biological sciences, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, ecology, botany, music, business, and statistics.
GenderWatch
GenderWatch is a full text database of unique and diverse publications that focus on how gender impacts a broad spectrum of subject areas. With its archival material, dating back to 1970 in some cases, GenderWatch is a repository of an important historical perspective on the evolution of the women's movement and the changes in gender roles.
